A Whirlwind New York City Trip

NYC Trip

A few weeks ago, as we approached Johnny's birthday weekend, he decided that he wanted to celebrate by heading into the city. We had some other plans already booked for the weekend, so we decided to get some train tickets and enjoy a bit of a spontaneous 26 hour whirlwind trip.

Johnny loves to experience new foods, and was most excited about planning out all of the places we could eat during our trip. Normally when we visit the city, we're lucky if we make it to one great place. This trip however was all about the birthday boy, and we made it to three amazing restaurants. Lunch, Dinner and then Breakfast. I've never been so full. For lunch we headed to The Spotted Pig, in the West Village, For dinner we met friends at Les Halles Downtown, the original home of Anthony Bourdain, and For Breakfast we ate at Jack the Horse in Brooklyn Heights. I'm not even sure I could pick a favorite meal the food was so good at each place.

I knew it was going to be a hot day, and we would be doing a lot of walking and traveling, so I wanted to find an outfit that could handle a lot of multi-tasking. I figured going with a simple tank and skirt was the best idea. I kept a scarf and a cardigan in my bag as layering pieces for when we were in air conditioned buildings. Combined with my Maurice easy walking canvas shoes, this outfit was perfect. Perfect for traveling, perfect for our restaurant tour, and perfect for visiting with old friends. The key element to my outfit was the Cambridge Satchel which made it's debut appearance on our trip. I actually won this bag during the Indie Conference that Tieka and Elizabeth hosted earlier this year. This bag housed my wallet, camera and cardigan all weekend. The perfect size, and comfortable to carry around all day.

Somewhere in the midst of our whirlwind restaurant tour, and meeting up with all of our friends and family in the city, we did manage to make it over the the Metropolitan Museum to see the McQueen exhibit. I can only say that I still get chills just thinking about it. Because we are members of the Met, we didn't have to wait in line ( clutch!) and instead got to spend our afternoon being mere inches from of McQueen's most amazing garments. The entire exhibit was so well done. Even our friends who aren't as interested in fashion left feeling excited to know more. I can't speaking highly enough about the entire experience.

NYC Trip

We woke up around 6am after being out late the night before to catch the train the day of our trip, and didn't make it back to our friends apartment until almost 3am the next night. Needless to say we were exhausted by the time we stopped moving. After our amazing brunch at Jack the Horse and our brief walk through the rain to Penn Station, I think Johnny and I were both a bit relieved to be situated on the train. We are lucky enough to visit the city often, and get to do so with open agendas. Our day long excursion was much more rushed then we are used to, and we managed to pack a lot in, but I don't think either of us would have changed a thing. We spent hours catching up with amazing friends over fantastic food. I wouldn't trade that for sleep any day.

Ahhh, I have some NYC jealousy going on right about now! Don't know if I could take the heat, but I'd be willing to take one for the team if all of that food was involved:-) xoxo
