About two years ago, I purchased this J. Crew skirt from Goodwill for $6. I loved the color, and the fit is fantastic, but I've always had a love hate relationship with the skirt. The material is thicker and denim like, which is perfect for work. What I didn't love however was the weird pleat that sits on the side of my hip. It kicked out funny and I never really understood the point.
That is until I slipped this skirt on again the other day. I realized, after almost two years of owning this skirt that there is a tag inside, which means the zipper belongs on the side, and not in the back which is where I had been putting it all along. The pleat should be sitting in the front of my body, and not on my side! Literally this was one of the hand smacks forehead sorts of moments. How did I never notice this before?! Once I spun this skirt around just 90 degrees, the entire look of the skirt changed, and I love it. Suddenly I can't get enough of this thing!
I always wondered why J. Crew made an odd side-pleating skirt. Apparently the people at J. Crew know what they are doing, and I however can be deceived by simple tags. Also, I am extremely gullible, and can be made to believe that anything is 'supposed to be that way'. Of course no one has commented on my strange side pleat either, so apparently I can sell an item of clothing like no-one's business. One woman's fashion error is another woman's trend setting statement..maybe? Thanks for not laughing people of the world, and always check your clothing for tags. Consider this lesson learned.
