In the depths of the summer heat last year, I looked at my closet and shuddered at my options. Skirts, or pants. I do own one pair of Capri's and I own shorts but they do not fit into work appropriate categories. As the heat continued to rise, I kept a constant rotation of skirts that served me well, but sometimes a girl wants to sit Indian Style under her desk with out fear she's going to show all of her co-workers what she's working with. I've always had a love-hate relationship with Capri's. One that's teetered more on the hate side. My longer legs mean most Capri's fall just at my knees often looking like too long Bermuda Shorts.
Having longer legs also means that I never shop for pants in thrift stores. I can rarely find taller lengths in Consignment shops, and often times people are donating their pants to Goodwill locations because they have shrunk in the wash, meaning what would already be to short on me, is now way above 'high water' levels. I decided to marry the two issues however, taking advantage of some of my length issues my creating my own Capri's.
I headed to my local Goodwill and started searching for trousers that would be perfect for work, regardless of their length. I found a few great fitting pairs and headed right to the register. Once home I took of the necessary amounts at the bottom, cuffed them, ironed in a row of Stitch Witch to help give them hold, and added a few stitches to ensure the cuff wasn't going anywhere. I couldn't be happier with my new pants. Thanks to some basic sewing knowledge I now have Capri's that are a custom length for me. The timing is perfect as well as we have been created by thunderstorms all week. Let the Indian Style sitting begin.
