I have spent a bunch of time recently thinking about my closet, so I was excited when I saw this week's Friend Friday Questions!
There is no single answer to this question. The answer is all of them! My closet is organized by color, and sleeve length and each color has an equal representation in my wardrobe. I have never been one to wear much black, or white. In general I like a color in each outfit I wear. Last spring I fell head over heels in love with a rich Berry color, and I seem to have collected more than a few items in that tone. Each Spring I seem to pick my new 'color obsession' so I have a feeling in the next few months I'll start to see more items in a similar color creeping in. I just have no idea what that color may be!
2. If money weren't an issue how would you change the color emphasis
in your closet?
Neutrals. Currently I am finding myself in love with light pinks, creams and tans. I think they look so professional and subtly sexy. Most of my current wardrobe colors tend to be deep and bold, so it would take some money to transition my closet to a more neutral pallet. Lately I have been remixing my bold color items along with more softer choices to help mix the two esthetic's.
3. What is your mantra about mixing colors?
There are no color's that can't work together. My understanding of color all started with the amazing ladies at Academichic when I first started blogging. I hung a color wheel in my closet, and each day tried out different mixes. Opposites can work together, Like Color families can work together, Color's near each other on the wheel can work together. Instead of looking at my closet and thinking what colors go together, I look into my closet each day and think what color have I not worn with this item yet?
( If you haven't met the ladies at Academichic, you must. They have really taught me a ton about both dressing for my body, and doing so with color. Check out their archives. I promise you won't regret it!)
4. For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits?
If the main pieces aren't colorful ( although there aren't many of those!) than it is all about adding accessories. A bright belt or a fun necklace can change an entire look. Largely, I find one item I love, and pair it with different colors. I tend to keep my jewelery neutral because I like to wear such different colors. My jewelery box may be the most plain thing about my closet!
5. Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color
into their wardrobe?
If you haven't read Kasmira you absolutely must. She puts together looks that not only would I be afraid to wear, but that look amazing on her. When I first started to explore colors in my outfits her blog was a huge inspiration. She taught me to think outside of the color box! What I wore Today
My current color love is for the adorable Monkeyface. I love the way she puts together looks, and her preferance toward neutrals with a few bold parts worked in fits perfectly into my current preferences. Hello Monkeyface
I mentioned them above, but the ladies at Academichic have taught me everything I now believe about color. Every so often they re-explore the color rules, and set some different color challenges. I love their professional style, and their push towards color in an academic setting. Academichic
