Sunshine on my Shoulders

Sunshine on my Shoulder
I always find it interesting, that I never seem to hit my cold weather dressing flow until about mid-January. It's only after 2 1/2 months of dressing for the snow each day that I seem to understand the perfect combination and am ready to face the elements each day. After spending weeks adjusting to the weather, and finally figuring out the appropriate way to layer, it takes a few more weeks before I start to relax and enjoy putting together various outfit combinations and pairings. Once the warmer months hit however, it takes me just days to remember how it's done.

Mother Nature seemed to know exactly when Memorial Day was. The week prior was rainy and 65, and ever since it has been sunny and 80 each day. In classic upstate New York fashion, Spring came and went in the blink of an eye and Summer has settled in fast. Johnny and I installed our Air Conditioners before I even packed away our Winter Coats, and I only got around to storing away our shovel this past week. It's common knowledge that as soon as you pack away your winter gear Nature will sneak one more storm up on you, so I always wait until I am sure. As I drove home from work yesterday, I hiked my skirt up past my knees so my pasty legs could get some sun, and watched a bed of sweat drop down my arm. It was then that I knew, it is safe to pack away the sweaters and sidewalk salt.

I've lived in snowy conditions my whole life and yet my body feels shocked by the cold each year. I think that may be part of the reason why dressing for the weather takes so long to get used to each Winter. However, with-in days of the Sun taking up Permanent Residence over our little city, I've got my Summer dressing habits down. I know to throw a cardigan into my bag for the chilly air conditioned buildings, and I keep belts loose around my waist or else they will become sweat traps under the sweltering heat. This skirt is actually a Maxi skirt that I purchased at Forever 21, but I knew the temperature would keep increasing during the day, and having fabric hanging down to my ankles would prevent a breeze. I also knew that hiking the skirt up to my chest would add an extra layer and I'm not yet adjusted, making 80 degrees feel like 100. With-out giving it to much thinking I simply rolled the waistband until the length was at a perfect Midi height. My sub-conscience seems to know, this girl was made for warmer weather.

I am never ready for the winter when it comes, and spring and fall seem to be nearly non existent! It's crazy, but I'm so happy warmer days with bare legs and sandals are finally here!
